Doolin Coast Guard Unit joined the Ennistymon Unit of the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service for a Chemical Incident Training excercise. The Fire Service explained how they deal with many different chemicals, showed us the equiment they use and the procedures to follow in the event of such an incident.
Doolin Coast Guard Unit were tasked to an incident at the Cliffs of Moher. Both boats were launched and they proceeded to the base of the Cliffs of Moher where they recovered a body to Doolin. Incident 21/09 Tags: Body Recovered, Cliffs of Moher, Goat IslandLate on Tuesday night there were reports of red flares seen from Connemara and Inis Óirr.Doolin Coast Guard Unit responded and team members investigated while the Aran Lifeboat, Inis Mór, launched and searched the area. Doolin Coast Guard members remained on watch for a number of hours with nothing to report. The Aran Lifeboat continued the search.Nothing was found and the search was stood down. Incident 20/09 Tags: Aran Lifeboat, Connemara, flares, inis OirrA member of the puplic contacted the emergency services as they were concerned when they saw what they believed to be surfers or swimmers in difficulty off Spanish Point. Doolin Coast Guard members went immediately to the scene and others followed with the D-Class by road. On arrival at the scene, Coast Guard members observed the group in the water with binoculars and it was clear that the surfers were not in any difficulty. The team were stood down.

Doolin Coast Guard Boat was in the Galway Bay area all day,one of the many boats on safety duty for the Volvo Ocean Race. Today was the first day of racing in the Bay and there was a huge number of power boats, sailing boats, hookers, ribs, dinghies and kayaks, all out to view the event. IRCG were operating onshore as Salthill Coast Guard Control .The Doolin Boat assisted a number of boats with minor troubles such as a rope caught in prop and engine problems. They were tasked to go to the assistance of a boat taking on water and proceeded to the boats location, Costello Coast Guard boat was closer to the distressed vessel and was able to deal with the incident.
